A CASED PAIR OF 80-BORE PERCUSSION MUFF-PISTOLS OF SMALL SIZE, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1845, with 1 1/4in. twist-steel octagonal turn-off barrels with engraved muzzles, signed on the top flats 'C. LANCASTER, LONDON', fine scroll engraved boxlock actions with dolphin-headed central hammers, sliding safeties on the top tangs, finely chequered walnut pistol-grip butts with engraved steel butt-caps featuring florally engraved central trapdoors concealing cap-boxes, rectangular clipped-corner silver escutcheons to the wrists engraved with a dragon rampant naissant, tail nowed, concealed triggers (good traces of colour remaining on both pistols) TOGETHER WITH an unusual original case covered in dark blue embossed leatherette and compartmented in the continental style complete with a number of accessories including a rare 'J. DIXON & SONS SHEFFIELD', three-way white-metal flask of the smallest size produced (spring broken, crack to body), a ball-mould, a replacement barrel and nipple-key combined, a replacement turn-screw and a period loading rod
